Training for all Skill Levels

A rider doesn’t have to have incredible riding skills to make progress in training their horse. There are many ways in which you can use our training to help you to success. Learning our groundwork system, with Ali Wakelin, will make a big difference to how responsive your horse is to the aids. Once you have really honed your groundwork then your horse really understands your leg and hand signals. This makes lateral work, which helps improve the horse’s balance, much easier to train.

To improve your riding skills we have Rider Biomechanics expert Mary Wanless BSc, BHSI to take you from the basics to more advanced topics such as lateral work. You can submit your videos to our forums for assessment, follow different riders as they have repeat lessons, and join Mary live on her webinars.

You can also get tips from Master Dressage author, Peter Dove, on how to improve test riding results. The six hour series, Improve Your Dressage Scores, takes you through some of the important aspects of test riding.

Why Rider Biomechanics?

Making the world a better place for horses and their humans, one partnership at a time

How you sit on your horse matters.

Are you easy to carry? In sync with his every move? Can he distinguish your aids from the noise of your sitting?

As riders become more skilful they feel safer, progress faster, improve competition scores, have more fun and, most importantly, become more ethical in their groundwork and riding. They start to lead the dance with their horse!

Many riders work against the laws of physics, leaving them victim to their horse’s next move. We help you work with nature, make things easier for your equine friend, and harness the joy of partnership.

Rid·er Bio·me·chan·ics

Rider Biomechanics is the science that underlies the art of riding. It enables you to ride so skilfully that you become ‘one-with’ your horse – the leading partner (and choreographer) of the dance that you do together.

"Rider Biomechanics showed me the 'how' of riding. I started to learn to influence my horse by better aligning my own body, without any force."

Your Coaches

Here to help you succeed

Mary Wanless, BHSI, Founder of the Rider Biomechanics Movement and the developer of Ride With Your Mind.

Mary was a pony-mad child who went on to achieve her BHSI qualification. She worked hard and dreamed of being a talented rider. Her frustration led her to give up riding and then return, with a “beginners mind” to devote herself to uncovering what makes good riders so good – and she can teach it to you!

Ali Wakelin, BHSAI and Senior Ride With Your Mind coach.

Ali has now been training with Mary for over 20 years and assists Mary in the training of coaches including introducing them to her groundwork system, which is available exclusively to Dressage Training TV subscribers.

Ali’s sharp eye for asymmetry and clear, positive coaching helps riders from all over the world.
