SESSION 31 – NAILING WALK-WALK-TROT TO IMPROVE ALL TRANSITIONS
Claire and Savannah are back working on trot-walk transitions, canter and keeping quick legs in walk. Claire’s position in all gaits and transitions has a significant impact on Savannah’s ability to stay ‘round’.
Claire gets brave and pings enough to keep up with Savannah’s trot, rather than trying to ‘shut it down’, and again achieves some great trot.
Claire admits that she tries to hold Savannah back going in to canter, and Ali reiterates that the more Savannah is moving forward, the less likely she is to mess around/spook. Part of the fix for Claire is ‘slingshot', pulling your buttons back inside you, and then putting your leg on. A horse can still be going fast and not be enough out in front of you, so speed alone isn't the answer.
In canter Claire says she has to think of ‘everything’ and Ali comments, that although that’s the case, Claire is getting more brain space to be able to think of it all and the practice is all paying off.
