Video Coaching
What To Film
Help your coach to help you!
Your coach wants to see you and your horse in a normal session. They want to see the good points and the things you are still working on, so please don’t film lots of times in the hope of showing perfection – we will help you get nearer and nearer to that goal.
For your first submission please film a circle around the camera in walk, trot and canter on both reins. If you are not ready to show canter that is fine. Keep it short and simple!
For subsequent submissions please film your homework and any additional elements that your coach has requested.
Tell us more. At the end of the session it is useful to talk to the camera about how you think it went, what challenges you, your goals and your thoughts about your progress. You can also send your coach a written message with your submission.
Your coach is looking at your biomechanics. With many years of experience they will be able to pick out the key things to focus on very quickly.
How To Film
Some general advice.
Your coach wants to see you! The more your coach can see the more they can help. Aim to make your body visible. Light coloured breeches and clothing that is fairly snug is best but no need to freeze on a chilly day.
A fairly new phone or tablet can do a good job. A camcorder or professional grade camera is not required – we’ve seen some really clear footage from smartphones and tablets.
Good lighting makes a difference. Most cameras struggle with low light levels.
Film from the centre of the arena. Ideally place the camera at X so that you will not go too far from the camera and become a blurry spec in the distance.
Aim to keep the the horse in the centre of the picture.
Camera person or robot camera? Both can do a good job so choose the one that is easiest for you.
Feeling uncertain? It is often best to just “go for it” and learn from the experience. If things aren’t working out then ask us to help.
Sending Your Video
