NANCY & POSH
SESSION FIVE
Since the last session, Nancy has been working on 'hitching-up' her right seat bone, moving her rib cage right and filling into her left side to avoid sliding right and collapsing left. Ali can see from the start of this session that Nancy is sitting straighter in halt. In walk, Nancy still goes a bit right but she has made good progress. Ali gives Nancy some tips for getting her to notice the movement to the right and how to correct this. Ali gets Nancy to imagine she has been 'shrink wrapped' to make her stiller and increase her tone. This starts to get Posh going rounder and reaching into the reins.
In trot, Nancy does a good job of keeping straight and in the middle. She works on bringing her shoulder blades together to correct her slightly rounded shoulders. By 'keeping the lid on the toothpaste', Nancy gets some lovely trot from Posh.
On the left rein, Nancy needs to steer Posh's withers from the outside and keep his nose to the right as he tends to fall out on this rein. In trot on the left rein, Nancy focuses on being 'shrink wrapped', putting more weight down her left thigh and almost rising diagonally over her left thigh. This keeps Posh straighter.
Nancy shows Ali Posh's canter for the first time. Posh likes to do a strung-out, long canter. Ali gets Nancy to 'get behind him', as if she is going towards a jump, to shorten his canter stride to get a bouncy canter. Nancy works on going from a little trot into a little canter whilst staying vertical and keeping her weight down her thighs. Nancy gets Posh straight by flexing to the right and stepping left. When he's straight, Posh thinks about reaching into the reins.
Great progress from this combination!
