Degrees in both Physics and Applied Sports Coaching, and holds the BHSI certificate.

SESSION 1 - 9th JUNE

Steering

Steering – Understanding correct turning aids and balance through the shoulders. In this session we start out explaining what a correct turn looks like and how the horse achieves the turn. We'll then look at how the rider influences the horse correctly to get good turns, circles and steering!

SESSION 2 - 1st JULY

Asymmetry Issues

Many things affect how well you can steer your horse. One of the major issues is that of asymmetry in both the horse and the rider. Here Mary looks at both aspects, discusses the typical ways in which the rider's asymmetry affects the horse and how the horse can affect the rider. By have a deep understanding of this cause and affect relationship, you can learn to unpick straightness, steering and sideways issues that you face with your horse.

SESSION 3 - 21st July

What factors affect straightness and what you can do to improve your own straightness? How important is straightness and how much focus should you have on it?

SESSION 4 - 11th AUGUST

Beginning lateral work

What are the first steps to introducing your horse to lateral work? How is lateral work positioning in the rider different to the turning and straightness? What typical mistakes does the rider make, and how can we make it easier for the horse to move sideways. Often what we instinctively want to do, doesn't work or even makes the situation worse.

SESSION 5 - 8th SEPTEMBER

Advanced Lateral Work

Pelvic Positioning, the ability to transmit force, introduction of the movement to your horse, common problems.
